My life in the fast lane
Hard fought but bad result...

Another Supercup race is done and another terrible weekend to forget. My team and I just can’t fully understand why I am unable to get success in this championship. Unlike the Carrera Cup Asia, where my weekends run generally very smooth and I am able to put in a strong performance, it is the opposite when I get to the races in Europe.

I struggle to get comfortable in the car, and due to that, I am unable to be consistent in the car. It is quite strange especially when my car in Asia usually handles very well with few handling problems. Being inconsistent will not allow me to have success in this championship. Our team has tried various things to improve the car, yet after all our hard work, we just seem to miss putting it all together by just the slimmest of margins. It’s all a bit frustrating because I still 100% believe I can put in much stronger performances in the Supercup, but it just hasn’t come yet.

During the race this weekend, it really was a war on the race track. With the top 25 cars qualifying within 1 second, the competition is fierce and the on-track battles are intense. In the race, I overtook many cars and at the same time, was overtaken back several times. For the last half of the race, I was in a very big battle with William Langhorne from the USA whom had gotten passed me on the opening lap after I was forced a bit wide on the exit of turn 1.

I had more pace than him as the race progressed, but at the Hungaroring, it is very difficult to overtake, especially with his defensive driving. We had a good battle going, but on the 12th lap, I was setting up to overtake him and he just didn’t give me enough space on the outside. He forced me out wide, just enough that I caught the outside entry curb, then out onto the dirty part of the track, and spun. I dropped back from 18th to 23rd where I finished the race.

As the cars are all so close, qualifying remains to be the key to getting a good result. Although my time was close, it just isn’t good enough to be close. I must qualifying that little bit better in order to break into the top 10. I will keep working hard with the team, and hopefully we will get a test in the car before we head over to Valencia. We tried a very different setup this weekend, one I feel has potential, but we haven’t had enough time to fine tune it yet. Its quite difficult to try a completely new setup heading into a race weekend, so a test would be very useful for me and the team.

I head back to Vancouver tomorrow to take a well needed break before heading back over to Valencia for the European Grand Prix. That will be a new street circuit so it will be very exciting to be a part of this race. Stay tuned for regular updates….
