Saturday was the first race of the year for PCCA in Sepang.

I started from fourth. Had a great start and moved into 3rd position overtaking Marchy. I was right behind Menzel and Sugden during lap 1 but I locked the rears in the last corner and spun around.

In qualifying yesterday, the car was locking the fronts, so I turned the bias back one notch to try and solve this problem. This ended up being the reason I locked my rears during the race!

I fought back hard and luckily recovered immediately. I managed to rejoin in 7th and in about 4 laps, I was able to overtake Dilantha, Marsh, and Jones. I chased down the lead pack and set the fastest lap in the process, but they were just too far ahead to catch.

Fortunately, on the last lap, Sugden suffered a puncture and I was able to pass him on the last corner. This gave me some valuable points for the championship and a decent starting position for tommorows race.

Hopefully I can get a good start and go fight for the win.

I gotta stop making the race so hard for myself!!! haha

Results race 1:

1. C. Menzel
2. M. Lee
3. D. O'Young
4. C. Jones
5. T. Sugden

Fastest Lap: D. O'Young 2:10.75

Tough qualifying today.... I'm have a cold/flu this weekend but I've been able to fight it off alrite so far. I felt my concentration wasn't 100% so I made small mistakes here and there. The track conditions were hard as well and the grip level was very low. We were over a second slower than our times from the Test day here last month.

On my flying lap which was the 3rd lap on my new set of tires, I got blocked and the data showed I lost 6tenths of a second. That lap was the lap that ended up being my fastest due to yellow flags etc during the session. If I wasn't blocked, I think I would've ended up somewhere around second position, but instead, I ended up 4th on the grid in the second row.

It'll be a good race tommorow, I feel I have a good setup on the car and I'm going to fight for every position during the race.

Next stop, back to my hotel and I'm going to take some meds and sleeeeep off my cold!!

Qualifying times,

1. T.Sugden 2.10.1
2. C.Menzel 2.10.5
3. M.Lee 2.10.7
4. D.O'Young2.11.0
5. A.Li 2.11.3
6. C.Jones 2.11.5
7. M.Marsh 2.11.5

I haven't gone out for practice yet as our first practice/qualifying session will be at 5pm. There's a chance for rain as its been flash thunderstorm raining around 5:15pm everyday in Malaysia, but hopefully it'll stay dry today. My cars painted and looking good, my racing suit just arrived from Adidas today.

It was actually quite a headache getting my race suit as it got stuck in customs while being shipped here from Europe, but I managed to get that all sorted this morning. Thanks to Adidas Motorsport for sending that out so quickly as we did put the suit order in quite late. haha..

Wish me luck as we head out for practice today. I had some issues with my brakes during testing last month here in Sepang, but my engineer Sven Schnabl and I have hopefully got it sorted for todays practice. If its not sorted, I'll have to blame Sven... haha..race drivers always need an excuse!! All jokes aside, I feel very ready and anxious to get into the first session of the year and I really hope to perform well...

Stay in touch here throughout the weekend...

Hey everyone,

If you're reading this right now, it means my site has been launched and you can begin following my life, travels, and most importantly, thoughts on racing right here on www.darryloyoung.com. My management team at MVSM and I have been working hard on this website to get it up and running.

For all my supporters, I really apologise for having the site down for a year, but now its back up and we are going to make a big effort to keep it fresh and up to date with the latest on my racing news...

I'm about to head off to Kuala Lumpur for the first round of the Carrera Cup Asia season which will be run as a support for the Formula 1 race. Actually I'm quite looking forward to the F-1 race as well which might have as much action as last weekends race in Australia. Wish me luck and follow me through the weekend right here!

Ciao Ciao Ciao...Darryl
