O’YOUNG MOVED UP TO RANK THIRD IN INDEPENDENTS
DARRYL: EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH VALUABLE POINTS
O’YOUNG FINISHES ON PODIUM IN SIX STRAIGHT RACE WEEKENDS

(18 July 2011, Hong Kong, China) WTCC sophomore Darryl O’Young again turned in some heroic performance at Donington Park, as the Hong Kong number one driver broke into top three of the independent table with yet another podium finish in England this weekend, and drew within five points off leader Norbert Michelisz.

Starting at overall P7 and fifth in the independent category in race two, Darryl managed to overtake Michel Nykjaer, Javier Villa as well as local favorite Colin Turkington, and crossed the finish line second only to Franz Engstler in the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy. The first runner-up spot extended Darryl’s run of podium finish to sixth straight race weekend.

"I am extremely happy with the results as we collected some valuable points from the weekend, and now moved up to P3 in the independents, only five points behind the independents leader,” he said.

Earlier in race one, O’Young started at overall P6, but an engine bogged down dropped him to the 12th by the first corner, together with a minor clash with Mehdi Bennani in lap 7, Darryl eventually finished P5 on the independent table, and overall P11. O’Young did manage the fastest lap in the independent class though, when he clocked a top time of a minute and 38.073 seconds in lap 3, bringing home an extra point for that.  He amassed 13 points from two races in England this weekend.

The 2011 World Touring Car Championship season will resume in Germany in a fortnight, for the 15th and 16th round of the season.

Race 1 at Donington Park (2011 round 13) – Independents P5 and overall P11
"Starting from P6, I had very high hopes for this race. Unfortunately, we had a big problem on the rolling start as the engine bogged down, we are still unsure what happened but the engineers are looking into this matter.”

Race 2 at Donington Park (2011 round 14) – Independents P2 and overall P8:
"I had one of my best standing starts of the season, getting off the line well. It was again a monumental fight with all the drivers, there were cars fighting everywhere. It was a race of survival but you also had to be aggressive in order to gain positions.”
