FIGHT FOR YOKOHAMA DRIVERS’ TROPHY HEATING UP
DARRYL AIMS TO LEAD THE REST AFTER GERMANY
NOTORIOUS TURN 1 AT OSCHERSLEBEN KEY TO VICTORY IN GERMANY

(28 July 2011, Hong Kong, China)  With Darryl O’Young firmly sitting in the third, and only five points behind leader Norbert Michelisz, the fight for the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy is heating up, as race eight of the 2011 World Touring Car Championship season heads to Germany for the 15th & 16th round on the famous Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.

A dip in form for leader Michelisz and Kristian Poulsen a fortnight ago at Donington Park, coupled with the 13 points gained by O’Young brought the Trophy fight closer than ever, with the first six drivers separated by only 16 points.  O’Young knows that some good results in Germany could lift him to the top of the pack.

"We have consistently been scoring podiums but I need some more race wins to get into the championship lead, my aim is to leave Germany as the independents trophy leader,” he said.

The German track is a traditional WTCC venue since 2005 and is considered as BMW’s home circuit.  However, O’Young is certainly having other ideas as the race approaches.

"Oschersleben has been quite strong for BMW’s in the past, but the Chevrolet is a strong car this year so I hope to change that trend,” said the Hong Kong number one driver.

A point to note for the drivers is turn number one of this 3.667 kilometers track.  The sharp 90-degree to the left is a notorious turn which is a frequent source of multi-car accidents, especially on the opening lap.

Sponsors LKM and A-Ha Coffee are the major forces behind Darryl’s pursuit of success in the 2011 FIM World Touring Car Championship, with additional team support coming from Chevrolet.  Please visit www.fiawtcc.com for more WTCC information and www.darryloyoung.com for the latest updates about Darryl.
