2011 FIA World Touring Car Championship 2011-09-01
Round 17 & 18 - Valencia, Spain
O’Young recharged for final four stages

(1 September 2011, Hong Kong, China)  After a month’s school-like August holiday, the 2011 World Touring Car Championship season returns to Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain where Hong Kong number one driver Darryl O’Young will be aiming to top the Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy, as the season enters its final eight races.

"It’s been a great summer break for our team to re-group and also to recharge ourselves ahead of the final third of the season,” says O’Young who have visited family and friends at home in Canada during the break.

Currently third on the independents table, O’Young is trailing leader Norbert Michelisz by a point, and second-place Kristian Poulsen, who is leveled with him with 78 points, by the number of wins. With the top four drivers separated by only two points, the touring car and sports car race driver knows that some good results in Spain will drastically increase his chance to lift the trophy at season end.

"The independent championship is tighter than it's ever been, so each and every round is going to count. The mid-season has been a bit disappointing for me, so I want to finish the season strong on the lead up to the finale in Macau,” the WTCC sophomore expresses.

2011 is the seventh straight year the WTCC Race of Spain is held in Valencia. The two rounds this weekend also marks the end of the European season, before the final three stages shift to the East. The 4km long circuit is often used as a test track by the F1 teams because of the mild temperature in winter. It also hosts the MotoGP Valencian Grand Prix.

Sponsors LKM and A-Ha Coffee are the major forces behind Darryl’s pursuit of success in the 2011 FIM World Touring Car Championship, with additional team support coming from Chevrolet. Please visit www.fiawtcc.com for more WTCC information and www.darryloyoung.com for the latest updates about Darryl.
