O’YOUNG ENCOUNTERED A BAD DAY WITH 2 POINTS AT SUZUKA
DARRYL LOOKING TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT IN SHANGHAI & MACAU

(24 October 2011, Hong Kong, China) A bad day on the Suzuka East Circuit summed up Darryl O'Young's race weekend in Japan, as the WTCC sophomore went home with only two points after a bad race one, and did not finish in another being hit off by ex-World Champion Tarquini who was penalized with a drive-through.

"It was a weekend that started off great and ended horribly for me," a brief summary on the weekend by a disappointed Darryl said it all.

O'Young started from P9 overall in the opening race, but was involved in some contacts right from the start, costing him several positions, and various crashes later on sent Darryl further down the packing order, before he finished the race P11 overall.

Things turned from bad to worse in race two, despite a reverse grid of the first qualifying session giving O'Young a pole position start in the second race of the afternoon.

"I had a reasonable start but not the best, this cost me to be in between a pack of cars and resulted in Gabriele Tarquini hitting me off in the first turn," said O'Young, who saw his 20-point gap with Yokohama Drivers' Trophy leader Kristian Poulsen extended to 30 after a 2-point weekend in Japan.  The Hong Kong number one driver is now with 81 points after the 19th and 20th round of the year, and currently sits in the sixth place.

The current WTCC season will resume in a fortnight in Shanghai, China.  The Race of China was first announced to be held at the Guangdong International Circuit, but is now moved to Tianma Circuit in Shanghai. The race will mark the debut of a WTCC event in the mainland China.

6                 Darryl O’Young (CHN)         81                     1 win + 6 podiums

Qualifying Q1 – Independents P3 and overall P10:
"It took me 3 attempts to break into the top 10 in the first qualifying session, but I'm very pleased my final attempt was good enough to grab 10th position.  This is a key part to the qualifying session as the reversed grid of Q1 sets the grid for Race 2 of the weekend.  Simply put, the 10th place in Q1 means I start on the overall grids pole position for race 2.”

Qualifying Q2 – Independents P2 and overall P9

Race 1 at Suzuka (2011 round 19) – Independents P7 and overall P11:
"I first lost several positions when the Volvo and Seat made contact at the start, then in turn two, I was involved with a crash which cost me more positions. I was hit two more times in the race losing me more time, so all in all, a very bad race."

Race 2 at Suzuka (2011 round 20) – DNF:
"It’s easier to comment on.  Not a good weekend in Japan!”
