O’YOUNG TO RACE IN FIRST-EVER WTCC RACE OF CHINA
DARRYL POSITIVE AS 66 POINTS STILL UP FOR GRAB

(3 November 2011, Hong Kong, China) With only two more race weekends in the WTCC 2011 season, Hong Kong’s number one race driver Darryl O’Young knows he can rectify his independents title bid, as the Canadian-born Chinese looks to narrow his points difference with Yokohama Drivers’ Trophy leader Kristian Poulsen in Shanghai this weekend.

"I’ve run into a string of bad luck the past two weekends in Spain and Japan which saw me only score three points in the last four rounds. That has dropped me all the way down to 6th in the independent trophy. However, I am determined to fight back because I know I can go back up in the standings as fast as I dropped down as everything is still quite close,” O’Young said with confidence.

Despite trailing leader Poulsen by 30 points, the WTCC sophomore knows he still has a shot at the title, for there will be double points to be awarded in the season finale in Macau. It means there are up to 66 points to grab for (including pole and race fastest lap point bonus) in the final four rounds of the season.

Talking about his debut on the Shanghai track, the currently sixth-placed O’Young thinks racing in front of his home crowds will give him some extra motivation.

"I won’t give up till I am mathematically out of contention, and I will put everything on the line to win races in China. I am looking forward to racing in front of my home fans,” says O’Young, who is counting on his fans to help him fight back.

The Race of China marks the 21st and 22nd round of the current season. It is the first time the WTCC pays a visit to the mainland China. The Shanghai Tianma Circuit was inaugurated in 2004. Drivers will compete on this 2.06 kilometers long racetrack for two 25-lap races, which is the longest ever since the World Championship was revived in 2005.

Sponsors LKM and A-Ha Coffee are the major forces behind Darryl’s pursuit of success in the 2011 FIM World Touring Car Championship, with additional team support coming from Chevrolet.  Please visit www.fiawtcc.com for more WTCC information and www.darryloyoung.com for the latest updates about Darryl.
